Getting Older Is Fun!
“I never knew getting older would be so much fun!” said an elderly woman in a little video I saw online this week. She took up art late in life and was showing off some of her paintings and jewelry creations. Despite her age and slowly going blind, she was enthusiastic about her endeavors and clearly revels in her unexpected accomplishments.
I, too, couldn’t be happier with my life. I always dreamed of being an author, and now I am one! It took decades of experiences (joys and losses alike), learning new skills, and especially gaining the confidence needed to expose my inner thoughts and reflections in ways that might help other women. Age finally let me feel secure enough to do that. Although I wrote and published several magazine articles along the way, nothing compares to the “permanency” of a book.
Would I like to have sold millions of copies and been on the New York Times bestseller list? Of course! But I know that, on average, an author will sell ninety nine copies of her book, and mine have sold in the thousands. I’m very pleased with the impact the two books are having on the everyday lives of women.
(If you don’t know, the two books are: Second Blooming for Women: Growing a Life that Matters after Fifty written with co-author Betsy Smith, PhD, and Women’s Wisdom: Pass It On! written solely by me.)
